We did our first camping trip with other
home-schoolers to
Carpinteria State Beach, but it got rained out, unfortunately.
We did spent a couple of nights, though, and actually came back
after the rain dried up, but by then most of the other home-schoolers
had left. We had a great time, though, camping right next to the
beach. |
|

|
Amelie and Mia had a great time running
around with the other kids, chasing seagulls and feeding pretzels to
the ducks (gluten free preztels, in case there were any celiac ducks
out there). |
|
|
|
Desmond was his happy self, as always. |
|
|
|
Our idea of camping was actually pretty
comfortable. We got to park the car right by the tent and had a
self-inflating air mattress to sleep on, it was all pretty easy. |
|
|
|
The second camping trip was in Northern
California in the Sierras, and it was a really big group of home-schoolers.
All week it was just roving groups of kids coming and going. They
had a potluck dinner every night, which I thought was a great
way to do it. They let the younger kids go first, and they had a system
with clothes pins to let you know which items were vegan or
vegetarian. |

My sister Sue's little boy Henry just
turned 5, and she had his birthday party at a local pumpkin patch. |

Unfortunately, Mia was sleeping when we
took the picture, but we did wake her up to go trick-or-treating.
You can't miss out on that. |

Before putting the fog machine away, we
set it up in the front yard for the girls to play with. We had the
mats in a tent-like configuration and shot the fog into it. Fog
machines are pretty cool, and safe for 8-month olds, apparently. |

We went to Amelie's former kindergarten's
Winter Festival, it was great. This was a maze you were supposed to
go through blind-folded. |
|
|
|
They had all kinds of materials you could
use to build a fairy house with (or wear, or eat...) |
|
|
|
Desmond is getting bigger, but still so
sweet. |
|

The weather has been nice lately, so the
girls were out in the front yard, I think waiting for the ice cream
man to come by. |
